Larry Larry

Born on Long Island, New York in 1958, I have spent the last 30+ years of my life living in Japan, and loving every minute of it! I have mainly been working in the field of corporate training, and at the same time have done a lot of writing and photography. Japan is the perfect place for all of these endeavors. Kamakura, and now Yokohama both in Kanagawa Prefecture, have been my home for almost twenty years, and are perfect places for me: hilly, situated on the water, and with amazing histories.

The following is an excerpt from Divine Caroline.com by Lee Neale:

"Yokohama, Japan-based English language Guru, photographer, old school wordmonger, and self-publisher, Larry Knipfing, is a jack of all trades and a master of many.

"Larry, despite the fact that he is an American born, former Long Island, "Nu Yoiker," should be considered well qualified to comment on the secret life of the "Land of the Rising Sun," from a Western perspective. After graduating from SUNY Buffalo, he packed his bags for Japan in 1980, and has been there ever since. Twenty eight years and 1000 plus Japanese Kanji characters later, lingo swami Larry should at least qualify as semi-native, or to some degree, undeserving of the Japanese term "Gaigokujin," meaning foreigner."
